After the signing of the Torrijos-Carter Treaties in 1977, Panama’s expectations only grew. These were years of dreaming big and feeling a commitment to turn this geographic advantage into an opportunity for development.

December 31, 1999 was the day that the Canal Zone went from being a strategic military asset of the United States to becoming Panamanian territory.

December 2022 will mark the 23rd anniversary of the day we saw the dream of generations materialize and the beginning of a promising path for Panama. Since that day, the Panama Canal has transformed from an asset we wished we had, to a mark of pride and hope. In this issue, we will appreciate the many ways in which the Canal invests to sustain that desire for progress. This year, 2022 saw programs that sow the seeds of curiosity and awareness in young people, and new connections between regions.

The Canal not only represents an economic input for the nation, but also generates a healthy ambition in its youth: to continue dreaming big and having great expectations.
