This summer, the Panama Canal is visiting the interior of the country to participate in the main fairs and to offer a series of lectures and talks.

The Canal’s summer tour kicked off at the Las Flores and Coffee Fair in the district of Boquete, province of Chiriqui.

With an eye-catching stand at the fair, information was shared and some interactive dynamics were carried out with the visiting public. Afterwards, a talk was given to the civic clubs at Club David, where the importance of environmental programs and the protection of water resources was emphasized.

The Canal at the country’s fairs

As part of this tour, the Canal will be present at fairs in Azuero, David, La Chorrera and Santiago de Veraguas.

In addition, the Panama Canal will participate in the 11th version of EXPO TURISMO Internacional, an annual meeting point for suppliers and buyers of tourism products and services.

This activity is organized by the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama (CCIAP), the National Chamber of Tourism of Panama, the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP) and the Panama Tourism Promotion Fund.

The fair brings together airlines, hotels and resorts, car rental and transportation companies, tourism associations and operators, commercial centers, among others, interested in establishing contacts with international companies from Europe, North America, Central America and South America that annually visit our country in search of suppliers of tourism services and products.

The Panama Canal will also be present at the 38th edition of the EXPOCOMER international trade fair, organized by the CCIAP.

This traditional multi-sector trade show is a showcase that promotes contacts, products, services and business opportunities among its local and international participants, and that takes place in an exhibition area of more than 15,500 square meters, with more than 600 companies from over 30 countries.

AGENDA

A parade of a thousand polleras

As part of this summer’s activities, the Canal participated in the eleventh edition of the Parade of a Thousand Polleras, in the district of Las Tablas, province of Los Santos.

A group of collaborators of the interoceanic waterway participated in the activity, showing off our typical costume.

The Parade of the Thousand Polleras honors the work of Panamanian artisans who maintain our traditions by making the national costume.

Nearly one hundred delegations and thirteen floats delighted the visiting public, who were able to closely appreciate the mastery of the design and colors of the Panamanian pollera. Additionally, the Panama Canal supports different activities during this summer such as the musical event “Luna llena de tambores” (Full Moon of Drums).

The Canal promotes ecotourism fairs in the Canal Watershed

The Panama Canal participated in ecotourism fairs in the communities of Nuevo Porvenir and El Congal, in Colon, and La Arenosa, in West Panama, as part of the Community Participatory Mapping project for the development of a strategic plan for ecotourism, inclusive and with a gender equity perspective, with a focus on “Community Circuits“.

This is an initiative of the Water Projects Office that proposes alternatives that consider environmental and social sustainability principles.

It also seeks to promote the development of areas where different studies are being carried out to identify alternatives that allow greater control over water availability at different times of the year.

The participatory community mapping project promotes entrepreneurial alternatives for three communities on the shores of Gatun Lake.

The fairs, organized by the communities, are the result of the implementation of the different techniques and tools acquired as part of the development of the project.

For example, in El Congal, activities for the whole family were developed, as well as food sales, guided tours, and handicraft sales, among other attractions.
