Young people unite efforts to protect water

Panamanian youth are concerned about the effects of climate change and the repercussions it will have on water resources. This was evidenced in the forum “Connecting Networks for Water“, organized by the Panama Canal in conjunction with the Youth Network for the Environment and the Canal Watershed.

As part of the actions to strengthen the Network, the Panama Canal organized the meeting, which brought together young people from different organizations that fight for environmental conservation in the country, in order to promote the exchange of experiences and lay the foundations to establish a joint work to strengthen the actions implemented in the different regions.

The Youth Network for the Environment and the Canal Watershed was joined by the Youth Network for Water Central America, Youth and Climate Change, and representatives of the Crean2 with Colors project.

During their interventions, the participants agreed on the need to create spaces for joint work that will allow them to strengthen themselves and, at the same time, assume their role as agents of change, especially in the face of the great challenges that lie ahead, as a result of a developing climate change.

During the event, awards were also given to the participants of the 2022 environmental contest, in which David Hernández was the winner in the Photo category, followed by Damaris Duarte and José Alveo, while in the Written Work category, first place went to Maritzel Ábrego with the project “Firu, el Gato Canalero”; Francisco Rodríguez and Itzel Muñoz completed the third place. On the other hand, the Video category was led by Angélica Farías and José Alveo with the video “Protection of Primary Forests”. They were followed by Liznelia Wong and David Ceballos in second place and in third place, Luz Ureña.
