The canal philosophy that promotes the waterway as a safe, profitable and efficient organization rests on the shoulders of its workforce. There are more than 9,300 men and women who are fully committed to the development of the company for the benefit of the country.
In the constant search for operational improvement, we strongly embrace the strategic mission of contributing sustainably to Panama’s prosperity through our human team, which offers a valuable service to our customers.
It is with that progress in mind that we strive daily to extend and apply sustainability in all our corporate policies and actions.
This edition of El Faro highlights how the Canal has developed programs since 2001 to protect the watershed, but more importantly, to improve the quality of life and empowerment of its residents.
In this sense, the implementation of the Environmental Economic Incentives Program (PIEA) has fulfilled this purpose in favor of a more effective and inclusive governance. Here, we must highlight the commitment to help the inhabitants of the Basin to be better stewards of their land and crops. In this way we also build our Nation.
However, we recognize that we still have much to do and tasks to accomplish. And that is what it is all about: maintaining our long-term vision and taking on the challenge of turning the Canal into a carbon neutral organization by the end of this decade. This involves phasing out the use of fossil fuels and integrating clean energy projects, energy efficiency measures and conservation programs.
Meanwhile, the Canal continues to prepare for the challenges ahead, hand in hand, of course, with its most valuable resource: its people.
